Summer Enrichment Program

A blend of fun, academics, and character-building activities for K-12 students, including field trips, crafts, math and reading exercises, yoga, and anti-bullying programs.

Have fun, make friends, go on adventures, and sharpen your academic skills through the PCMDC’s Summer Enrichment Program (SEP).

Our summer camp has been a cherished tradition in our community for the past two decades, offering nine weeks of enriching experiences for children aged 5 and up. Our program is meticulously crafted to promote holistic health and well-being while providing engaging activities in reading, math, art, music, emotional wellness, and more.

Activities are centered on an overarching theme such as science, math, music, character education (how to be my best me), and global discovery. Participants play outside and help grow vegetables and flowers in the PCMDC’s garden as well as garden plots at Grace Episcopal Church and Francis Cove Church. Students enjoy crafts, music, and games as well as reading and math activities. Special programs vary from year to year but range from yoga to anti-bullying.

Annual activities include a soccer match and flag football game with the Waynesville Police Department and Haywood County Sheriff’s Department.

Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are served each day. In addition, PCMDC hosts two family dinners where camp families share a pot-luck dinner and receive updated program information and enjoy performances by the campers.

Here's what you can expect from our summer camp:

- **Nine-Week Duration**: Operating Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, our program ensures full-day care and enrichment for your child throughout the summer.

- **Age-Appropriate Classes**: We tailor our classes to meet the developmental needs of children aged 5 to 7, 8 to 10, 11 to 13, and 14 and up, guaranteeing personalized attention and instruction for each child.

- **Exciting Excursions**: Every week, we organize fun and educational outings to destinations such as swimming pools, zoos, local family farms, and civil rights sites, offering a diverse range of experiences beyond the classroom.

- **Nutritious Meals**: Our dedicated kitchen staff prepares daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks specifically for the children in our program, ensuring they receive nourishing meals to fuel their bodies and minds.

- **Affordable Pricing**: The cost of our nine-week program is $650 per child for new students. Additionally, we are pleased to offer limited scholarship opportunities as they become available, as well as multi-child discounts for families with more than one child enrolled in our program. Parents or caregivers also are required to commit to 10 hours of volunteer service for PCMDC per child.

- **Application Period**: We begin accepting applications for our summer camp program on May 1. We encourage you to submit your application early to secure your child's spot!

How to Help

Counselors and interns assist with the SEP. PCMDC relies on volunteers to help with many things such as reading with the students, food preparation, cleaning, building, materials prep, organizing, setting up classrooms, and preparing the kitchen and pantry areas. Financial gifts very much welcome and can go to support scholarships for students whose family many not be able to cover the cost of enrollment.
